After the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, Vilnius City council was one of the first in the country to listen to the problems of families raising children with intellectual disabilities and in 1992 set up and opened the Day Centre for people with intellectual disabilities to create a democratic city community.

Day Centre „ Šviesa“ was established by Vilnius City council and is a day social care institution for people with special needs from the age of 18. At the moment the Centre is attended by 72 service users with mild and severe intellectual disabilities, profound and multiple learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy. The main aim at the Centre is to help service users to develop their daily life skills and to be as independent as possible, to pratice and show all possible abilities and strengths, communicate and participate in community. The Centre offers activities such as sewing, knitting, making souvenirs, ceramics, textiles workshops and etc.  Respite care service is provided at the Centre as well. Addressing these challenges the staff members at the Centre are putting all the passion to create an environment where a person with special needs can be safe, feel accepted and understood.

            Day Centre "Šviesa" was opened in 1992 years.      

         Day Centre is in Vilnius.

            People with intellectual disabilities can attend centre.

           At Day Centre you can do things yourself or with help.

        At Day Centre you can choose activities:

needs of service users at the Centre, social policies

implemented by the Republic of Lithuania and
